Types of stress

There are many different types of stresses for ex:
a) Tension
b) Compression
c) Shearing
Tension is something that pulls on the crust, stretching rocks so that it becomes thinner in the middle. Compression is squeezing rocks until it folds or breaks. Shearing it the stress that pushes a mass of rock in two opposite directions

Notes on Pages 24 29

Today when I read Chapter 5 section three I was astounded with all the new thing i learned for example; When an object or wave hits a surface through which it cannot pass, it bounces back. I already new this before but I was unsure of my tests. I also learned that When a wave moves from one medium into another medium at an angle, it changes speed as it enters the second medium, which causes it to bend, This was one of the most interesting things i figured out. I found this Section very interesting fun and interactive.

Interacting with Water waves

The project me and my partner (Rafa) did consists of these materials; 2 cups of water a bucket/something to store watter in, 2 board markers or something that will create a disturbance, and a notebook and pencil for analyzing the data. We first started of our project without any barriers what happen was that the watter waves just when right through each other, when we did it with two barriers it was the same except if the water wave had hit the barrier the barrier would sen the wave back were it came from. We tried the same experiment with two barriers and as expected it did the same thing.
In all I really though this test was fun because we got to make fascinating experiments.

Reflection Food Inc

What are your impressions of how science of food industry, technology of food industry, and society are interrelated?
1. No I am not because of the ways that they are killing almost the whole world.
How did the film describe science & technology as a positive or negative impact on society or the environment?
2. A negative society because it showed us how bad and wast full it is.
How do our consumer choices affect what is out on the market and therefore, our own species survival?
3. Being a product is like voting for it, now simulare to an election which ever product gets the most "Votes" stays on the shelf, and mostly the unhealthy products get picked, therefore there is a bigger possibility for people to get diabetes or any disease, which might lead our species to extinction.
How are we as humans connected to how the Earth is used?
4. We basically use Earth in every situaticion, although the use of Earth reaches a certain point, that point has already been reached a few years ago. Many of use don't realize it but we as humans are cheating it, and this causes Earth to create natural disasters.
When do we say "no" to more high tech devices and go back to what caused the problem in the first place? Why are we only into the "HOW" things work and not the "WHY" things don't? What did this farmer mean?
He basically means that we never say no to something done fast and cheaply most of these products are unhealthy for you, we are not interested into how they don't work because we only WANT so we don't really wonder WHY but only HOW.
What is the difference between natural farming and industrial farming? Which is better? Are they both necessary for human survival? Why or why not?
The difference between Natural and Industrial farming is that, Natural is expensive and takes long to make products and its good for you. The Industrial Farming on the other side is cheap, really fast to create a product and very unhealthy for you. Only Natural Farming is necessary for survival, actually the Industrial Farming is a necessity for extinction, this is because the natural farming is good for you it has proteins and other necessities of life, but industrial farming causes diabetes and strokes etc.
If technology and industry have improved so much that we are getting faster, fatter, bigger, and cheaper, how are science and technology held responsible for improving or ruining human health and survival?
Because only they know why exactly this is actually happening, and this is mostly feeding inappropriate diets for the animals.
What economic costs, environmental costs, ethical costs, health costs, and cultural costs did you observe while watching the film?
I saw money costs, job costs and even life threatening costs.
Finally, state your final thoughts about this film and any changes you see happening in the food industry in the future or even your own eating habits.
I think health/eating disorders are a major problem in our planet today. Not really many restaurants/fast foods actually pay attention to these problems, but many individuals have changed their diet because of this, one of those individuals is me.

Polar Bears Soon to Extinct

Have you wondered about this question“ Will polar bears survive in a warmer world?“ well the answer is probably no. Imagine your grandchildren not knowing what a polar bear or not seeing one, that would be very sad. Now I will present the facts why this is true.

As polar bears lose habitat due to global warming, these biologists say, they will be forced southward in search of alternative sources of food, where they will increasingly come into competition with grizzly bears.

To test how this competition might end, the UCLA biologists constructed three-dimensional computer models of the skulls of polar bears and grizzly bears subspecies of brown bears and simulated the process of biting. The models enabled them to compare the two species in terms of how hard they can bite and how strong their skulls are.

The implication is that polar bears are likely to lose out in competition for food to the Grizzle bears, therefore they would die out. This will shake the whole food chain, and the animals habitats.

Grizzlies as warmer temperatures bring them into the same environments, because grizzlies' stronger skulls are better suited to a plant-rich diet, said Slater and Blaire Van Valkenburgh, UCLA professor of ecology and evolutionary biology and senior author of the research.

In conclusion as you see there are many possibilities for these animals (polar bears) to die out (go to Extinction). I believe that this has a very negative effect to the environment, if these animals do die out the food chain could corrupt or be severely shaken. I believe that extinction is a huge issue in the modern world, not many people are trying to stop it, although many laws have been passed about pollution, and I believe that if there was any chance for us to abide these laws there could be a possibility of stopping this major pollution issue (this would also help us for other problems that have something to do with pollution.)
